The tale of “Made in Hong Kong” is never complete without the toy industry - which has made some impressive achievements. At its early development stage, toy production was merely a major segment under the plastic industry. Following the introduction of various new elements (such as metal, electronics, and anime) to the industry, toy production gradually gained independence from the plastic industry and took shape as a new and standalone industry. At its peak, Hong Kong was the largest toy exporter in the world, earning the accolade of “Toy Kingdom”.
Back then, some young people would work at factories to ease financial burdens of their households. Taking this into account, we have made young workers the subject of the Column and showed various kinds of old toys and the then working environment of toy factories at the back of the Column, presenting to you all the elements which contributed to the success of the toy industry.
